PAINTINGS by Asi Efros
Post-impressionism is my favorite art period. I learned to paint from the artists themselves by spending countless hours in the museums. To the dismay of the museum guards, I used to stand alarmingly close staring at the paintings in an attempt to capture every change in the direction of the strokes, their color, form or intensity.
My paintings are thoughts and emotions materialized on canvas. The reality transforms in my imagination generating images that often are very different from the original form. Realism doesn’t interest me. A good camera can capture images of reality in detail. Instead, I study the subject peeling off layers until I arrive at its core.
"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance".
